New tennis facility to open in Oakwood soon

The new Shafor Park Tennis Court Facility and parking lot will open for the public on Friday, Oct. 26, according to a release.

“We are very pleased with our beautiful new tennis facility and know that it will be a wonderful community asset for many years to come,” Leisure Services Director Carol Collins said.

The city rebuilt the facility over the past six months, including removing the six old tennis courts, the release stated. The construction of the new facility consisted of five tennis courts, a 25-space parking lot, Gardner Pool, Shafor Park, and the tennis facility.

The new tennis facility will also be the home of the Oakwood High School Tennis teams, according to the release.
