Previously, an athletics spokesperson said in a post the parade was “in a holding pattern” and the district was awaiting a recommendation from Sidney police. The district also made the decision to cancel classes for the day Thursday while the search for the suspected shooter was still ongoing.
The cancellation of the homecoming parade is the latest disruption to homecoming festivities for Sidney schools. Sidney had been scheduled to play Fairborn, however that game was canceled earlier this week.
Sidney found a replacement opponent in Fort Loramie, who also had a cancellation involving Thurgood Marshall. However, the replacement game between Sidney and Fort Loramie will be played at Fort Loramie.
“We are planning to find a way to highlight the Homecoming Court within our school community Wednesday, October 13, and when we do that, we will be sure to share with the public through our social media feeds,” the school spokesperson said.
A Sidney volleyball game, also scheduled to be senior night, is part of the cancellations Thursday night. The senior night will be rescheduled for Oct. 11.
