SIDNEY — A week after Sidney Police Sgt. Tim Kennedy was hospitalized after being shot in the line of duty, he made a special appearance at his son’s senior night.
Kennedy was released from Miami Valley Hospital Tuesday, six days after he was shot twice on Lynn Street while trying to arrest a man with an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Sidney Police Chief William Balling confirmed to News Center 7 Wednesday.
Friday night, Kennedy attended his son’s football game at Sidney High School, surprising him for Senior Night.
Kennedy, along with his wife and son, walked across the field during Senior Night festivities while receiving a standing ovation from friends, family, fans and fellow officers.

It was a special night for the Kennedy family, as it was their son’s first game of the season. He had been sidelined due to an injury.
Kennedy chose not to talk with News Center 7 at the game because he did not want to take the focus off his son’s big night.
News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott spoke with other Sidney officers in attendance. They said it was a miracle that Kennedy could make it to the game. They said he is expected to make a full recovery.
