KETTERING — UPDATE @ 2:50 p.m.:
Power has been restored to most of the AES Ohio customers in Kettering and Centerville after initially knocking out electric service to over 8,000 people.

As of 2:50 p.m., only 18 outages remain in Montgomery County which is down from the peak outage of 8,015 around noon, according to the AES Ohio online outage map.
An AES Ohio spokesperson said the cause of the outage was identified as a circuit issue but has been resolved.

UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m.:
Power has been restored to parts of Kettering and Centerville after an initial large outage, but thousands are still without service, according to an AES Ohio outage map.
As of 12:40 p.m., 3,690 outages remain in Montgomery County with the majority of the outages centered in the Kettering and Centerville areas. This outage is down from the peak report of over 8,000 reported around noon.
Additional updates from AES Ohio and Kettering police have not been provided. Previously, an AES Ohio spokesperson said crews were called to a substation near East David and Marshall roads to assess the situation.

FIRST REPORT
Over 8,000 power outages are reported in the Kettering area as AES Ohio crews are now investigating the potential cause.
Outages were first reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and are centered in the Marshall Road and East David Road areas, according to an AES Ohio outage map.. As of noon, 8,015 outages are reported in Montgomery County.
An AES Ohio spokesperson said crews have been dispatched to a substation near the intersection of East David Road and Marshall Road to investigate, but the potential cause and estimated time for service to be restored wasn’t immediately known.

Kettering police and fire departments were called around the 10:30 a.m. to Marshall Road just south of East David Road for a report of a natural gas leak that’s forced crews to shut down Marshall Road.
It was not known if the two incidents were believed to be connected and additional details were not available from Kettering police, a department spokesperson told News Center 7.
