LIVE UPDATES: Winter Storm Warning issued for most of region

MIAMI VALLEY — A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Butler, Clark Clinton, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren counties in Ohio until midnight on Jan. 7. Union and Wayne counties in Indiana are under the same warning.

Randolph County in Indiana is under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 p.m. on Jan 6.

A Winter Storm Advisory has been issued for Auglaize, Champaign, Darke, Logan, and Mercer counties in Ohio until midnight on Jan. 7.

Our Storm Center 7 team of meteorologists will continue to TRACK this winter storm over the next few days.

Storm Center 7′s Chief Meteorologist Austin Chaney said those south of I-70 may get 6″ to 10″ of snow. There is high confidence in at least 6″ of snow.

Snow is currently moving into the region and will peak in intensity late Sunday night.

There will be a sharp cutoff of snow north of I-70. Auglaize and Mercer counties will likely only get 1″ to 2″ of snow.

Sleet or freezing rain may creep into the Miami Valley thanks to a layer of warmer air aloft.

The worst travel conditions will occur late Sunday night through early Monday morning due to heavy precipitation and reduced visibility, according to Storm Center 7 Weather Specialist Nick Dunn.

Sleet and a light ice glaze are possible about as far north as I-70. Up to 0.1″ of ice accumulation is possible across Butler, Warren, and Clinton counties.

Windy conditions will help blow some snow around and lead to the greatest restrictions in visibility.

Gusts will peak late tonight into Monday and range between 20 mph to 35 mph.

The winter storm may continue into Monday with continued snow showers, especially for the first half of the day.

Highs will be in the 20 and any lingering snow will taper off by the end of the day.

Total snowfall accumulation will vary greatly from north to south.

Road conditions will remain messy Monday night into Tuesday morning with refreeze issues likely.
