Sister arrested, accused of killing sibling in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — The sister of a woman killed in a Wednesday morning shooting has been arrested, according to Middletown Police.

Officer arrested Monica Ann Pennington, 49, on suspicion of murder and she is currently booked into the Middletown City Jail. She’s accused of killing Pamela Pennington, 52, of Middletown, according to police.

Police responded to the 1600 block of Lafayette Avenue around 8:40 a.m. on a report that Pennington shot her sister.

“I shot my sister,” Pennington told 911 “I shot her. She was beating me.”

“Upon our arrival, we located a female suffering from a gunshot wound,” Middletown Police said. “Officers also found the suspect inside the residence, who was immediately taken into custody.”

During the 911 call Pennington said she was calling from the bedroom of the home and still had the gun in her hand.

The sister who was shot was taken to Atrium Medical Center, but has since died from her injuries, according to police.
