CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — The Springfield Post of the Ohio State High Patrol is investigating a small plane crash in Urbana Sunday morning.
OSHP says the plane crash happened in a field north of Grimes Field Airport around 8:22 a.m.
A 1989 Van’s RV-6 experimental plane was approaching the runway and lost power during approach, according to a release from OSHP.
The pilot, who OSHP identified as 61-year-old Michael Baldwin of Pickerington, Ohio, made a controlled landing in the field.
OSHP was assisted at the scene by Urbana Fire and EMS, Urbana Police Department, Grimes Field Airport officials, and Maine’s Towing, the release said.
The the cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
