Demolition ordered after apartment building catches fire in Dayton

DAYTON — People miles around could see a plume of black smoke coming from an abandoned apartment complex.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5, around 1 p.m. Dayton fire crews were called to a vacant 2-story apartment building in the 1900 block of Riverside Drive for reports of heavy smoke and flames.

By 4:30 p.m. crews had the building brought to the ground.

The smoke from the fire could be seen from I-75.

Firefighters battled the flames for around two hours.

Investigators believe no one was inside and no injuries were reported.

An emergency demolition was ordered by crews on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
