KETTERING — A Kettering man is accused of killing his father because he wouldn’t give him a ride in his car.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Kettering police arrested 37-year-old Justin August after a 911 call brought them to the 2700 block of Haig Avenue.

“I had been standing over here and I heard about 15 to 20 popping sounds,” said Matisen Merkle.
Kettering police said they received several 911 calls Friday afternoon.
“A lot of cops start pulling up, we see cops running down the street with guns, I think 8 of them ran past,” Merkle said.
Neighbors say they went inside for safety at that point. Police say they discovered a 62-year-old man dead inside the home.

“When the first officers got on the scene, he was sitting on the porch, smoking a cigarette,” said Det. Vince Mason.
Mason said the shooting appeared to be the result of a brief argument.
“The way I understand it, it was a misunderstanding that the son wanted to go somewhere and the father wouldn’t take him to that place,” Mason said.
Mason said the department was already somewhat familiar with the family. Officers had been there at least one other time about 10 years ago when August suffered a self-inflicted gunshot that would cost him his leg.
A Kettering municipal court set his bond at one million dollars after he was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault.
Kettering police said they removed two guns from the home, a handgun and a rifle.
“Both were fired, I believe 37 rounds were fired inside the house,” Mason said.
