Springfield-Beckley Airport awarded over $2 million in federal grants for improvements

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Beckley Municipal Airport will receive over $2 million in federal grants for improvements to the airport from the Federal Aviation Administration, according to a spokesperson for Sen. Sherrod Brown’s office.

Springfield-Beckley and the Butler County Regional Airport were chosen to receive the federal funds, with both airports awarded over $2 million in grants.

Over $1.4 million of the grant funds will go to runway rehabilitation, while the other $625,000 will go to improvements to runway lighting, the spokesperson said in the media release.

All of the over $2 million in funding for the Butler County airport will go to runway rehabilitation.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” Brown said in the media release. “These investments will provide Southwest Ohio airports with the resources they need to ensure the safety of their passengers and support the local economy for years to come.”

The grants were awarded as part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.
