Former Cooper Energy Facility catches fire, third time since August

UPDATE @12:10 p.m.

Fire crews are back on scene of Cooper Energy where a fire broke out over the weekend.

Two fire trucks and a medic are on scene.

We’re working to learn if the fire has rekindled.

FIRST REPORT

The former Cooper Energy facility was once again in flames Sunday.

Springfield crews responded to the fire and scanner traffic indicated that firefighters would not enter the building as they attempt to curb the blaze.

Heavy smoke and fire was visible and reports indicated that the smoke near the building was incredibly thick.

The same facility caught fire Aug. 20 and Aug. 30 of this year and investigators believed those fires to be highly suspicious.

The Aug. 20 fire was located in the back of the facility, which had been abandoned for the last 15 to 20 years.
