Suspect injured, Ohio BCI investigating officer-involved shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Crews are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Springfield Sunday morning.

Crews were called to the 700 block of Selma Road around 7:30 a.m., to reports of a man showing a gun and attempting to enter a business, according to the Springfield Police Department.

The armed suspect confronted police minutes after officers arrived and shots were fired, SPD said.

The suspect, only described as an adult white male, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.

Police said his current condition is not known.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations confirmed they were called to respond to the scene by Springfield and have an open investigation.

No officers were injured in the shooting, according to BCI.

BCI put out this statement, “BCI was requested by Springfield PD to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred this morning. Our investigation is active and ongoing. No officers were injured.”

BCI currently has jurisdiction over the investigation.

No further information is available at this time, according to police.
