As reported as breaking news earlier this evening, Reporter Malik Patterson has learned that the victim remains at Miami Valley Hospital and police are looking for a suspect.

TRENDING STORIES:

Police investigators said they believe the victim, after being shot, left his home on Tibbetts Street. At least one caller to 9-1-1 about 6:10 p.m. reported seeing a man in the street believed to have been hit by a car, Springfield police Lt. Mike Curtis said. The victim was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. His condition was not known, police said.

A SWAT unit joined police about two hours later and surrounded a house on Tibbetts, at the corner intersection with Selma Road, because they believed a suspect was in the residence. There were several people in the house and one man was detained, Lt. Curtis said.

Police later determined that the man, dressed only in his underwear, was not connected to the shooting and was released sometime late Thursday night.

The shooting and standoff was an all-too-common occurrence in the city, neighbors said.

“This is . . . all too common here in Springfield,” neighborhood resident Dee Elliott said. “It’s sad.”

Another neighborhood resident, Winnie Huffman, said, “When was the last time you seen this many policemen on your street? On my street, probably a week ago.”

Huffman said she is praying for the man who was shot and his family.

We will continue to update this developing report as information is made available.
