Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened Monday at the Security National Bank on East Main Street.

The robbery was reported around 12:15 p.m. at the bank, 2730 E. Main St. in Springfield.

The robber entered the bank, brandished a handgun and approached the counter to demand money, according to a Springfield police report. He handed the tellers a bag, which they placed an undisclosed amount of money into, and then fled the area.

Security National Bank President, John Brown, said there were customers in the bank at the time of robbery, but employees did what they were trained to do and got the robber out of the bank.

“A young man came into the branch and got away with a minimal amount of money,” he said.

The robber is described to be in his 20s or 30s, 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds, the report says. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, black and white shoes, dark pants and a black toboggan.

No arrests have been made, but Brown says police are “pursuing a couple of leads.”

A different Security National Bank branch, at 920 W. Main St., was robbed twice over the summer.

In the first case, police arrested a suspect within minutes of a June 8, 2019, robbery.
