Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is hiring qualified candidates to drive and maintain state snowplows.

ODOT is looking to hire more employees ahead of the winter season to ensure that more than 43,000 miles of state and U.S. routes are clear of snow and ice, a spokesperson for the department stated in a press release.
“The men and women who drive and support ODOT’s fleet of nearly 1,700 plow trucks play a vital role in making sure our roads remain passible for those who need them during and after a storm,” Governor Mike DeWine said.

Applicants looking to drive snowplow trucks on either a seasonal or full-time basis:
- MUST have a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and no air brake restriction
- MUST have three months training or three months experience in operation of basic equipment
- MUST be able to pass a Physical Ability Test (lift 50-100 lbs)
- MUST pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen

ODOT will train and pay for employees to attain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) through their new Highway Maintenance Worker program.
Under this opportunity, employees will have access to full-time positions with benefits and career advancement.

ODOT will also enact a retention incentive. Full-time eligible employees with valid Class A or Class B CDL licenses will receive an additional $2,500.
Eligible employees must serve the State of Ohio during ODOT’s critical snow and ice season and be employed by the agency from December 1, 2022 and remain with no break in service through May 1, 2023, the spokesperson said.

The retention payment will be made in two installments, the spokesperson informed. The first will be paid on January 13, 2023 and the second on May 19, 2023.
