Sinclair, Wright State deal with impact of RTA drivers’ and mechanics’ strike

Despite both union leaders and the Greater Dayton RTA meeting late Sunday night, on the request of Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miami Twp., a deal was not reached between the two sides.
“We hope negotiations will start first thing tomorrow morning” State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miami Twp. said in a phone call. “We will urge both teams to return to negotiating table as soon as they get some sleep ... We're hopeful it will be resolved quickly.”

There is still a chance an RTA strike can be averted tonight.
Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miami Twp. both urged the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1385 to return to the bargaining table.

Here is a statement released by Whaley about her invitation to RTA and union officials to resume negotiations at Dayton City Hall:
“We are very disappointed that an agreement has not been reached among management and union officials. For this reason, the Dayton City Commission invited both RTA leadership and union officials to our offices for further discussions. The entire City Commission welcomed both parties including State Representative Niraj Antani at 8:00 PM at City Hall. Ongoing discussions are currently underway.
“Clearly a strike would be devastating to the Dayton community and leave thousands of our citizens unable to get to school, work, doctor's appointments, or the grocery store. We are urging both sides to find a solution to prevent this strike from occurring.”

FIRST REPORT
A local lawmaker is urging the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority and the union representing its drivers to go back to the negotiation table.
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1385 and RTA officials both announced that no deal has been reached ahead of the union’s strike that begins at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miami Twp., released the following statement this evening:
"I am sincerely disappointed the two sides were not able to reach a deal. I urge them to immediately return to the negotiating table and work out an agreement. Both sides need to stop being selfish and think about who the RTA serves: people trying to get to work, students trying to get to school and the citizens of our community.”
