The trooper found Long unconscious. As the van started to catch fire, Wheeland pulled the driver from the vehicle to safety, Sgt. David Robinson of the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Long was transported to an area hospital, however his condition is unknown.

Troopers said they are checking two drug-related items that might have been a factor in the crash,  however the official cause is currently under investigation.

The crash shut down northbound lanes of I-75 until just before 2:30 p.m.
