State trooper seriously injured after crash on I-71 near Columbus

FRANKLIN COUNTY — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured after he was hit by a vehicle on I-71 in Franklin County Monday morning, our news partners at WBNS reported.

OSHP says just before 10:44 a.m., the trooper was outside of his cruiser when it was struck from behind by a Toyota SUV, according to WBNS.

The impact of the crash pushed the cruiser forward, striking the trooper.

The trooper and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The trooper’s condition has since improved, WBNS reported.

I-71 north from US 62 to state Route 665/London-Groveport Road was closed for several hours after the crash but has since reopened.

Accident-71 Northbound just south of mile marker 97 (near 62) 71 Northbound will be shut down. Please be safe and find an alternate route.
