State troopers ID 44-year-old man killed after SUV hits tree in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has identified a 44-year-old man who died after a Kia hit a tree in Shelby County Tuesday night.

As previously reported by News Center 7, state troopers and medics responded to the 3600 block of River Road around 8:17 p.m. on reports of a crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Kia Sorento was traveling southbound on River Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and lost control, according to OSHP Lt. Jeremy Allen.

The SUV drove off the right side of the road before it got back on to River Road. It then drove off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

Medics transported the driver, 44-year-old David Kessler II, and his passenger, 34-year-old Brandi Kessler, to an area hospital.

CareFlight transported Brandi Kessler to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

David Kessler II died from his injuries at the hospital, Lt Allan said.

The crash remains under investigation.
