MIAMI COUNTY — A man facing multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a chase that ended in a crash reportedly tried to escape custody after being discharged from an area hospital.

David Poindexter, 51, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., was taken into custody and booked into the Miami County Jail.

He was charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, reckless operation and speed, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Poindexter is accused of leading troopers on a chase on various Piqua and Troy-area roads before trying to flee on the interstate. The vehicle he was driving was reportedly stolen.

Troopers reportedly attempted to stop Poindexter for speeding around 1:10 a.m. on I-75 north of Piqua.

While he initially stopped, Poindexter took off toward the city as troopers approached and he exited the highway.

He re-entered I-75 outside of Troy and hit road spikes.

The car went into a ditch and then hit the right of way fence, disabling the vehicle.

The 51-year-old allegedly got out of the car with something in his hand and did not comply with orders from a trooper.
