The storm that unleashed tornadoes on the Dayton area late Monday night left a path of destruction across the Midwest.

There were more than 50 tornado reports listed on the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center website from Monday. Those reports included a cluster in Colorado and Nebraska, a few in Iowa, then a string of reports stretching in a line across Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

The storm system marched east, with WANE.com in Fort Wayne, Ind., receiving reports of close to a dozen tornado sightings between 7:45 and 9:45 p.m., many of them near Akron and Wabash, Ind., west of Fort Wayne.

Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs was on WHIO’s airwaves before 11 p.m., tracking the storms town by town as they came from the Richmond, Ind., area into Ohio.

After the storm system produced heavy damage in the Celina, Trotwood, Vandalia, Riverside and Beavercreek areas, it continued to the east.

Preliminary reports from the Logan Elm area, just south of Circleville, said power lines were down near U.S. 23 and some trucks were damaged at a Love’s truck stop.
