DAYTON — A Dayton native who was murdered in Brazil in February of 2005, now has a street named after her.
Sister Dorothy Stang was threatened by loggers and landowners because she worked to protect the environment and the community by teaching people how to farm sustainably.
Today a street at the Cavalry Cemetery in Dayton was named in her honor.
She was buried in Brazil, but has a tree at the Cavalry Cemetery in Dayton honoring her live.
Her niece, Jeanne Erling, was at the Cavalry Cemetery today during the ceremony. She noted that all the other streets at the cemetery are named after saints.
Stang has not been canonized as a saint, but many people view her as a martyr.
