The break-ins happened at two separate apartment complexes, the Northpark and Dover Place Apartments. Thieves targeted Kias and Hyundais, according to police.
Hannah Blade owns one of the cars.
“Well I cried earlier, but it’s mostly anger, because this is my hard earned work,” Blade said.
Blade said she was here to visit her boyfriend and his family for the holidays. They got a call from a family member, who was just a few doors down, saying their car had been broken into.
The family member owns a Kia, just like Blade.
“Estimates [are] looking upwards of $1000, just in repairs,” Blade said.
Springfield police said they are working six different car break-ins from Thursday.
Nick Baker’s car was also broken into on Thursday. He found out when police knocked on his door.
“They’re telling me that my window got busted up,” Baker said.
Baker says that thankfully he doesn’t keep anything in his car. Baker is looking at around $250 in repairs.
Both Blade and Baker agree that once police find the culprit, they will be pressing charges.
“This is my only form of transportation. This is how I get back and forth,” Blade said. “It’s messed up, like you’re ruining people’s livelihoods.”
Investigators are reviewing ring camera footage and statements, so they can track down the person, or people, responsible.
