Jon Duke, assistant director of the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency, was surveying damage in Richmond this weekend. He said damage covered a large swath, from north of U.S. 40 down to South A Street and from east to west from 37th Street to Garwood Road.

There was damage at the mall, but he said he is not aware of any significant structural damage. He said HVAC units were tossed off the roof, including one that landed on U.S. 40.

Much of the damage seemed to be limited to businesses, including a car dealership where the windows had been blown out of several vehicles. The roof at McAlister’s Deli was damaged. A Speedway sign at the station on U.S. 40 and Garwood Road was damaged, and an extended care facility behind the mall was damaged as well, Duke said.

There was only one injury Duke said he was aware: a child inside a vehicle suffered minor lacerations when the car’s windows were blown out.

Wayne County Sheriff’s dispatch reported downed trees across the county during the storms.
