Student arrested after threat made to Fairmont High School Monday evening

KETTERING — A Kettering Fairmont High School student has been arrested after a social media threat was made against the school Monday evening, a spokesperson for the school district announced.

During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Kettering Police Chief Chip Protsman said the student has been charged with inducing panic.

“The motive for that, after our detectives interviewed this young man, was he made the threat because he did not want to attend school today,” Protsman said. “There was no correlation, no connection to anything that happened last week.”

This comes days after a Beavercreek man, Brandon Moore, was arrested for allegedly phoning in a threat to the school against the LGBTQ+ community.

The call came after two LGBTQ+ students were chosen as prom king and queen.

Kettering police were able to track down Moore at his work and take him into custody.

Classes were closed at Fairmont High School Tuesday, however, all after-school activities for Fairmont High School can take place as scheduled.

“The disruption to the school day for 2,400 students and our staff members, the emotional toll these actions take on our families and community, and the sheer drain on manpower needed to handle this situation will not be tolerated,” the spokesperson for the school district said. “We renew our pledge to pursue school disciplinary action and any and all legal actions against the perpetrator.”

Jerika Witt, a mom of a student who attends the high school, told News Center 7 that she thinks the school made the right decision by canceling classes Tuesday.

“I think they handled that really well,” Witt said “I think most parents were already going to make the call anyways.”

News Center 7 is working to learn more and we will continue updating this story.
