TRENDING STORIES:

A sergeant and another officer with the Shelby Police Department went to the Arby’s restaurant on Mansfield Ave around 11:20 p.m. to serve a warrant to a man identified as Tyler Jacobs.

While they were making initial contact with Jacobs and informing him about the warrant, Jacobs allegedly stabbed the police sergeant in the neck with a knife.

The sergeant was able to distance himself from Jacobs, but Jacobs then ran toward him with the knife still in his hand, according to police.

That was when the sergeant took out his gun and shot Jacobs, according to police.

The other officer, who was covering the back door of the restaurant, provided aid to the sergeant and Jacobs.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital by medics.

The sergeant’s condition was described as “stable.” Jacobs died from his injuries, according to police.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
