MIAMI COUNTY — The Dayton Bomb Squad was called to a property in Bethel Township Tuesday morning after deputies in Miami County were notified of suspected dynamite inside a detached garage.
Deputies in Miami County said they received information from an attorney who was representing a client who was a former tenant of a rental property in the 4000 block of West Charleston Road.
According to a press release, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office was told by the attorney that his client had left four sticks of what he believed was dynamite inside a small safe that was in a detached garage on the property.
Deputies said the attorney also indicated that the suspected dynamite was leaking gel. Considering the property was located in a residential neighborhood, several nearby houses were evacuated.
The Dayton Bomb Squad responded, along with Bethel Twp. Fire and Rescue. The small safe was removed from the garage and it and the contents were detonated in a nearby field.
Investigators said the safe contained road flares and not dynamite. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
