GETTYSBURG, DARKE COUNTY — A 28-year-old Covington man was taken to the hospital for a head injury late Saturday after crashing into a guardrail at the intersection of U.S. 36 and Bridge Street.
Darke County deputies along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue responded to the incident at approximately 10:44 p.m.
Identified as Jerry D. Evans III, he may have been under the influence of alcohol, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation revealed Evans was driving a blue 2005 Chevrolet Uplander eastbound on U.S. 36 approaching Gettysburg when his van traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking the guardrail twice. The van then traveled left of center, colliding with the guardrail on the north side before coming to rest, according to a press release.
Evan’s medical condition is unknown at this time.
The accident remains under investigation.
