Suspected theft from Piqua Walmart leads to drug bust

PIQUA — A man allegedly attempting to steal a television to trade for drugs led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in the Piqua Walmart parking lot, according to Piqua police.

Rusty Shannon, 56, of Lockington, was reportedly sitting in his vehicle while another man Alex Shinall, 24, allegedly went in to the Walmart, 1300 East Ash Street, to attempt to steal a television around 8 p.m. Monday, the police report read.

Police said when they arrived they found suspected methamphetamine in Shannon’s vehicle and the 56-year-old also reportedly had a warrant for his arrest.

Shannon was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments, complicity and trafficking in drugs and was booked into the Miami County Jail.

Shinall was issued a summons to appear in court on several theft charges and a criminal trespassing charge, records show.
