SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 4:35 p.m.

A Springfield man reportedly involved in a high-speed chase with children in the car last week was arrested during a raid at a home Thursday morning.

Chadwick Carpenter was arrested around 10 a.m. in the 400 block of Linden Avenue by Springfield police. The home was raided by U.S. Marshals about an hour before his arrest.

Carpenter was wanted on several charges, including fleeing police, abduction and obstructing official business. He is charged in Clark County Municipal Court.

Springfield police stated in an affidavit that they spotted him on Oct. 25 and knew he had a warrant for his arrest. When officers attempted to stop his vehicle, they said he fled.

“Officers activated their overhead lights in attempts to conduct a traffic stop,” the affidavit stated. “At this time Mr. Carpenter did not stop the vehicle and accelerated at a high rate of speed continuing westbound.”

Police said Carpenter ran stop signs and reached about 80 mph. During the pursuit of Chadwick a woman in the car called county dispatch.

“(The woman) … stated that Chadwick wouldn’t stop the car,” the affidavit said. “(The woman) stated she attempted multiple times to have Mr. Carpenter stop the vehicle. (The woman) was very distraught.”

In a 9-1-1 recording, officers heard Carpenter say he wasn’t going back to jail, according to the affidavit.

The woman was pleading for Carpenter to stop the car. The Clark County Sheriff's Office dispatch was unable to calm her down, and authorities learned there were multiple children in the car, according to the affidavit.
