Teen charged in Woodman Lanes shooting could face trial as adult

KETTERING — Prosecutors have asked for a 17-year-old accused of shooting two people inside Woodman Lanes in Kettering to be tried as an adult.

The shooting happened at the bowling alley just after midnight on April 16.

“An altercation between the defendant and another person occurred, resulting in a fistfight. During the fight, the defendant pulled out a firearm and fired it, striking two victims,” prosecutors said in a statement.

Dispatchers received 911 calls reporting the gunfire.

“There was gunshots inside Woodman Lanes bowling alley,” a 911 caller said, adding that she only heard one shot. “We ran out. Everyone ran out.”

Prosecutors amended charges against the 17-year-old Thursday, filing four counts of felonious assault and two weapons charges.

“Once again, a 17‐year‐old has a gun and fires it in complete disregard for the safety of others. This defendant should not even have a firearm, and certainly should not have discharged it in a crowded bowling alley,” Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said.

The two people who were shot have been treated and released from the hospital.
