DAYTON — Teens self-identifying as LGBTQIA+ can attend mental health education sessions at Dayton Metro Library throughout November.
Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug, Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Prevention Specialist will lead the Visible and Resilient Teen Engagement program.
The discussions will focus on supporting and improving mental health, a spokesperson stated in a press release.
This service benefits a community that disproportionately suffers higher rates of mental health disorders, substance misuse, and suicidal attempts, according to American Psychiatric Association.
ABC News reported that LGBTQ members, especially the trans community, experience more violence, even death, than their cisgender, straight counterparts.
The educational support program will be held at these locations and times:
- Miamisburg Branch: Monday, November 7, 14, 21, and 28 (4 p.m. - 5 p.m.)
- Southeast Branch: Thursday, November 10 (3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.)
- Vandalia Branch: Thursday, November 17 (5 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
