Teenage girl reports rape at Springfield pool

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police are investigating a reported sexual assault at a local pool that happened over the weekend.

It took place on June 30, according to a police report, but was reported on Wednesday.

A 16-year-old girl was at the pool for a group trip. She went to the restroom and an unknown male came in behind her “and forced intercourse with child/victim,” according to the police report.

It also stated the young girl screamed, punched and slapped the man to make him stop and “he told her if she told he would get a gun and kill her.” He then left the restroom.

The victim told police she did not tell anyone because she was afraid.

The male suspect is described a black male with tattoos on his neck, arms and chest.

The victim also said she believes the suspect is a sex trafficker and his name is “Greg.”

Cox Media reached out to National Trails and Park District Thursday morning and was provided the following statement by National Trail Parks and Recreation Director Leann Castillo:

“National Trail Parks and Recreation District’s highest priority is the safety and security of our patrons at Splash Zone. We first learned of this situation from the WHIO reporter this morning. Our onsite staff and agency did not receive reports of any incidents of this nature occurring at the Aquatic Center.”
