"All of a sudden, we lost power. I was laying in bed, next thing you know I hear this big rumble coming. So I just shot straight to the bathroom and shut the door,” Keaton told News Center 7’s Adam Marshall.

The tornado tore off the roof and caused more significant damage to the structure, Keaton said.

During a Skype phone call, Keaton showed damage to the hotel, including a wall blown out during the storm and the hotel’s sign that landed in front of a semitrailer.

Multiple surrounding roads around the hotel remained closed because of damage and downed power lines, Keaton said.

The tornado outbreak has been responsible for at least 22 deaths, according to Tennessee emergency management officials.
