MIAMI VALLEY — With prices for most items increasing, Thanksgiving dinner will likely cost more this year.

A classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 people including turkey, stuffing, cranberries, veggies and pumpkin pie will cost $53.31 to make, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. The cost is up 14 percent from last year.

The item seeing the biggest increase in cost this year is turkey. If the cost of products such as feed and fuel increase, then the cost of meat is directly impacted.

“Everything we are buying is costing more, feed, fuel, labor, all those things have increased in price from 2020 to 2021,” said Turkey Farmer Chris Bohrer.

Supply chain issues are also leading to increased prices at the grocery store.

“A pie crust, for example, has multiple ingredients. So if there’s an increase in the cost of eggs, if there’s an increase in the cost of packaging for any of the ingredients, an increase in the cost of gas to transport any of those ingredients to the pie crust manufacturer, it all adds up,” said Veronica Nigh with the American Farm Bureau Federation.
