Apartment complex, several roads flooded in Champaign County

Settlers Ridge Apartments, located at 941 W. State Route 29 in Urbana, has also flooded, and there are about 10 inches of water in the first floor apartments, a resident and officials said. Several Roads around the county have also been shut down because of high water.

Residents are not being allowed into the Settlers Ridge Apartments because of the flooding, although officials have not evacuated the structure. Instead, firefighters are there to assist residents if they need help, a Champaign County dispatcher said.

Kevin Asterino arrived at the complex this morning after working an overnight shift. He’s one of several residents who was not allowed to enter the building because of the flooding on the first floor.

His wife and kids, including an infant, are safe in their apartment, but they are not allowed to come out, he said, adding that this is the second time in a month and the third in a year that the complex has flooded.

Crews have shut off the power at the complex while they drain the water, Asterino said he was told.

Everyone in the complex have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported, a dispatcher said.

Several structures nearby have also flooded, a Champaign County dispatcher said.

Flooded apartments aside, several roads have been shut down because of high water. Those roads include the 3000 block of Millerstown Road, Millerstown-Eris Road, Church Road and the 3600 block of West State Route 29 near Urbana.

Update@4:36 a.m.: 

Two adults, three children and two dogs were evacuated from the home in the 2700 block of Church Road,  a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy said.

It’s not clear where the residents were transported to or if anyone was injured. But we will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest information.

Also, a flood advisory and flood warning that were issued in Logan and Champaign Counties have expired. However, a flash flood watch has been issued until 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Update@2:45 a.m.:

There are reports of high water in parts of Champaign County, and a home in St. Paris is taking on some of that water.

At least 4 inches of water entered the home in the 2700 block of Church Road, a Champaign County dispatcher said. A woman with three children and a dog live in the home, and they’ve called for assistance.

Several first responders are at the home assisting the family, a Champaign County dispatcher said.

A flood advisory has been issued for Logan and Champaign counties un!@ggie08

til 4:15 Monday morning.

A flash flood warning was also issued for both counties until 4:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Additionally, a line of strong thunderstorms will affect parts of Logan and Champaign counties as well as Shelby County, the National Weather Service reported.

High water was reported on state Route 560, just north of Stickley Road, in Urbana, a dispatcher said.

Earlier, a tornado warning was issued for Champaign County, but it expired at 12:45 a.m. Monday.
