Darlene Hensley got two donkeys, Zeb and Ellie, to become emotional support for the community.
“My donkeys were well loved in the community,” Hensley said.
Both donkeys are recovering from a vicious attack.
Hensley said three dogs broke into the donkey’s pen and attacked them.
“I went and got towels and blankets and I ended up holding Zeb on the ground right here. In the mud and a pool of his blood for two and a half hours until the vet could come,” Hensley said.

She said they’re having trouble paying the expensive medical bills and she needs a new stall for Zeb to continue healing once he’s discharged.
“At OSU in the ICU, it’s probably going to be horrendous ... just the nutrition he’s on because he’s not eating is about $500 a day alone. So the GoFundMe will make a big difference,” Hensley said.
So far the online fundraiser has raised over $29,000.
While the donkeys recover in a vet hospital at Ohio State University, Hensley believes someone should be held accountable tried to report the attacks as a crime.
She said she was told that this attack was not a crime because the victim was an animal, not a person.
“I know they are donkeys but they might as well be my children too. I don’t feel safe with my grandkids on this property,” Hensley said.
News Center 7 reached out to Greene County Animal Control to clarify but was told they did not have a comment at this time.
