‘They don’t get penalized;’ Community frustrated as fights continue to break out at Dayton library

DAYTON — People say they are fed up with teen violence in their community after several fights broke out at the downtown Dayton Metro Library on Wednesday.
As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, Dayton police and fire crews were called to Dayton Metro Library at 215 E 3rd Street on reports of an assault around 2:45 p.m.
Dayton police told News Center 7 that two minors were fighting at the time of the initial call.
One teenager was pepper sprayed because they didn’t want to cooperate, according to police.
News Center 7 crews were inside the library when the second fight broke out around 4 p.m.
Police said two adults were fighting a 15-year-old on the second floor of the library.
The adults were reportedly arrested and the teen cooperated with officers, according to police on scene.
It is unclear if anyone was injured in either fight.
Dayton Metro Library staff shut down the library shortly after. It reopened to the public around 5 p.m.
“The Library exists to be open and safe for all. Steps and actions moving forward are with the goal of keeping the Library safe and open,” a Dayton Metro Library spokesperson said.
