This has been an issue for three years, according to our news partner WBNS in Columbus.
Three Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawks were all stolen from Level Five of the John Glenn Long Term parking garage, WBNS said.
One was found stripped down to the frame. But that’s not the only model.
Two other cars stolen this year include a Dodge Durango and Jeep.
In three of the stolen car cases, the thieves followed behind another car before the gate arm went down. This is known as piggybacking, WBNS reporter Kevin Landers reports.
Since 2021, 11 cars have been from the airport. Five were stolen in 2023. That is the exact number this year.
The airport told WBNS that a new garage is being built as part of the new terminal project.
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) said this.
“CRAA takes the security of our passengers very seriously. It is unfortunate that crime occurs, and we will continue to enhance our operations, which includes utilizing the latest technology in the new facility however the specifics are unavailable as the garage is still under design. In addition, the information may not be subject to disclosure as it falls under the security and infrastructure exemption.”
News Center 7 will continue to follow this story.
