Timeline of events to Jan 6, 2021 attack on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

News Center 7′s Blair Miller looks back at the day and times out how the events unfolded.

January 6, 2021

  • 12:00 p.m. – President Trump gave a speech to a large crowd near the White House
  • 12:32 p.m. – A large crowd marched from downtown D.C. toward the Capitol
  • 1:00 p.m. – A joint session of Congress convened to count the Electoral ballots to certify Joe Biden’s win. Meanwhile, a large group gathered outside the Capitol
  • 1:49 p.m. – Rioters broke down barricades
  • 2:13 p.m. – Members of Congress were forced off the floor and into hiding
  • 2:55 p.m. – Rioters clashed with police inside the Capitol
  • 4:14 p.m. – President Trump tweets out a message encouraging rioters to go home
  • 5:40 p.m. – Police clear the rioters from the Capitol. Leaders of Congress said they would continue to tally Electoral votes
  • 6:00 p.m. – A curfew went into effect in Washington, D.C.
  • 8:06 p.m. – The Senate reconvened

January 7, 2021

  • 3:39 a.m. – Joe Biden was officially declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election
