The driver, who has not been formally named by state troopers or the district, was the victim of the deadly crash on Dayton-Xenia Road and Trebein Road. The crash happened around 11:50 a.m. involving a Volkswagen Beetle and a dump truck.
A preliminary investigation found the Beetle was traveling east on Dayton-Xenia Road when it entered the intersection and was hit by a dump truck traveling south on Trebein Road, state troopers said in a media release issued Friday afternoon.
The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Her name was not released, pending notification of family and further investigation.
Two other people in the car, only identified as juveniles, were taken to area hospitals, however their conditions were not released. It was not known if the injured juveniles are also students at Fairborn High School or if they are enrolled in another district.
The intersection was closed for the investigation until around 2:30 p.m.
Following the student’s death, Fairborn schools cancelled all evening and weekend activities, a district spokesperson said in a social media post.
“Fairborn Superintendent, Gene Lolli, is canceling all evening and weekend activities scheduled for this weekend due to the tragic death of a Fairborn High School student. The district will be providing information about counseling services and other supports as soon as we have more information,” the spokesperson stated.
In a separate social media message, the Lolli announced grief counselors and other support staff will be at the school Saturday between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and later from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A candlelight vigil will follow Saturday night.
