Trotwood shoplifting suspect caught after car won’t start

Home Depot Shoplifting

TROTWOOD — A man accused of stealing over $1,600 worth of tools from the Trotwood Home Depot tried to get away, but his car wouldn’t start, according to investigators.

Police were called to the store on Salem Avenue around 11:40 a.m. on a report of a shoplifter.

Initial emergency dispatch reports indicated the suspect was asking for someone to jump his car when police were responding.

As officers arrived, the suspect ran and wouldn’t comply with officers and officers used a Taser to help get the man into custody near the Pep Boys, police said.

Police said the man was trying to steal various power tools, a pressure washer and chain saws.
