1 taken into custody after man, 28, takes Troy police on chase, crashes into pond

Troy police retrieved a vehicle from a retention pond Wednesday night at a Troy apartment complex after the driver refused to stop for a traffic violation.

A Nissan Titan, driven by Cody Francis, 28, of Pleasant Hill, did not have headlights, prompting the initial stop.

Francis refused to stop, sped off and ran a red light before a brief pursuit, according to Troy Police Sgt. Dominic Burnside.

During the pursuit, Francis lost control around the curve on South Stanfield Road and drove into a retention pond at Traditions Apartment complex.

Francis then fled on foot into a wooded area east of the complex, leaving a passenger with the vehicle. Police established a perimeter and searched for an hour before finding him in the woods.

Francis complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital then to county jail.
