Her family was working on their new house down the road from their apartment on Troy Villa Boulevard when the crash happened.
“When we got here and saw the scenes it was really shocking. I was a wreck. I started crying and everything because everything that was going through my mind was mostly what could have happened,” Rojo said.
A 17-year-old learning to drive failed to navigate a right turn and lost control ending up through Rojo’s apartment, according to a crash report.
They were cited with failure to control.
Rojo talked to the teenager’s mom after the crash. Despite the damage done, she is thankful the teenager wasn’t seriously hurt.

“(The mom) said she was going fast ... she was turning and she didn’t turn on time. I don’t know and then she just lost control,” Rojo said.
As Rojo looks at what is left of her living room she said she can’t help but wonder what would have happened if her children were home.
She said her young children are struggling to understand why they can’t come back home and are living out of a hotel room.
“It’s one of those things that you don’t expect for them to happen. They kind of just turned our world upside down,” Rojo said.
She became emotional when she thought of all the small decisions made that day that resulted in the family not being home and out of harm’s way when the crash happened.
“My husband has been working every single day for over a month, every single day. That Friday was the first day that he was off early. Like what? That wasn’t a coincidence,” she said.
After losing so much, she is thankful that she still has her family.
“Only God knows why this happened. But yeah, we are we are very lucky,” she said.
