Indiana Conservation Officers resumed their search Sunday morning after two Indiana University students went missing while inside the water at Monroe Lake, a spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources said.

Siddhant Shah, 19, and Aryan Vaidya, 20, were identified as the missing students.

They were reportedly boating on a pontoon with friends when the group anchored to swim, the spokesperson informed. When both men did not resurface, friends tried to help, but were unsuccessful.

Search and rescue units were called out to assist, utilizing side scan sonar and scuba divers. They, however, suspended operations at night due to the darkness. The team resumed their search and continued through the beginning of the week.

Indiana University Student Services transported the remaining group back to campus and provided counselling services.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Bloomington Police Department, Indiana University Police Department, Monroe County Dive Team, Indiana University Dean of Students Office, Monroe Fire Protection District, and Indiana University Health EMS worked together during the search.
