AMES, Iowa — UPDATE @ 9:40 p.m.:
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team have been eliminated from the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The 11-seed Flyers lost, 70-54, to the 6-seed Georgia Bulldogs Friday night in the First Round in Ames, Iowa.
The Flyers were led by Makira Cook, who finished the game with 21 points. Jenna Giacone was the only other Flyer to reach double digits, finishing with 16 points.
Dayton trailed, 19-17, after the one quarter, but the Bulldogs extended the lead to seven points to open the second quarter, 29-22. They led, 41-31, at halftime. UD cut the deficit to seven points, 48-41, after a three-pointer by Kyla Whitehead with 4:10 left in the third quarter but Georgia scored six straight points to increase it to 54-41 and never looked back.
Dayton finished the 2021-2022 season with a 26-6 record and as the Atlantic 10 regular season champions.

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team will look to continue their NCAA Tournament run tonight when they play Georgia.
The 11-seed Flyers play the 6-seed Bulldogs in the Greensboro Region, in Ames, Iowa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Flyers are coming off an impressive win Wednesday when they won their First Four matchup against fellow 11-seed DePaul 88-57. That marked the Flyers’ first win then the NCAA Tournament since the 2015 Elite Eight.
The winner of tonight’s game will move on to face the winner of 3-seed Iowa State and 14 University of Texas-Arlington.

The UD women are currently 26-5 and finished as the Atlantic 10 regular season champions.
