DAYTON — A downtown Dayton restaurant staple for a quarter-century has closed its doors for good.

Uno Pizzeria, located on North Main Street near the Schuester Center, closed after business Thursday, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The pizza chain is known for serving Chicago-style deep-dish pizzas, among other items.

“We are proud to have served so many friends and family. We thank Dayton and the Arts community for all your support over the years,” a restaurant spokesperson said in the social media statement.
Russell Reichelderfer is a dishwasher at Uno’s and he was shocked when he walked up Friday to see a note on the door announcing the closure.
“I found out about it today, I was actually in yesterday to get myself some lunch. And when I came here to get myself another lunch, I found the sign on the door and well it’s like (what) is happening,” Reichelderfer said.
He said he was he was hired last October.

His manager told him Friday that he got an email saying the place would close and not reopen.
“It’s definitely going to be missed, it’s within walking distance of where I live, so, it’s going to be a hard blow,” Reichelderfer said.
A reason for the restaurant’s closure wasn’t immediately provided. Calls to representatives of the restaurant by News Center 7 were not immediately returned.
The Uno Pizza website does not list any current locations in Ohio. The nearest location to Dayton is Indianapolis, according to the company’s site.
