UPDATE: Coroner ID’s 2 people killed in 9-vehicle crash in Shelby County

BOTKINS — UPDATE: 11 P.M.

The Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the two victims of the fatal accident on I-75 southbound in Botkins Monday evening.

Larry E. Warner, age 71, and Penny S. Warner, age 71 of Morrow, were both killed in the accident that involved a total of 9 vehicles.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

At least seven other people were also injured in the accident, according to a release from OSHP. They were all transported to Lima Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers from the Patrol’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are currently assisting with the investigation.

The Botkins Fire Department, Anna Rescue, Saint Johns Rescue, Wapakoneta EMS, and The Ohio Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.

UPDATE: 8:30 p.m.

Two people have died as the result of a crash involving 9 vehicles Monday evening in Shelby County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash in Botkins on I-75 southbound around 4:30 p.m.

According to OSP Lt. Scott Carrico, traffic was backed up as the result of an earlier crash at the 103 mile marker. A second crash later happened at the 104 mile marker involving two semis and five other vehicles.

Carrico told News Center 7 that one vehicle was pushed into the back of one of the semis and it caught on fire.

Two people were killed as a result of the crash. Information about other injuries were not made available at this time.

A reconstruction team was called to the scene to figure out what caused the sequence of events, Carrico said.

I-75 southbound is closed due to reports of a multi-vehicle crash in Shelby County Monday evening.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is responding to the accident near the 105 mile marker near Botkins Road.

Initial scanner traffic indicated that there were reports of multiple injuries.
