UPDATE: Man arrested after vehicle smashes through wall at Champaign County Public Library

URBANA — UPDATE @ 2:02 p.m: The driver who sent a vehicle through a wall at the Champaign County Public Library has been arrested on charges of OVI and failure to control.

Stanley Brann, 58, refused treatment and no one else was injured, according to Champaign County Sheriff’s dispatch.

The investigation into the accident at the library, 1060 Scioto St., is continuing.

According to the library system’s website, both the Scioto Street location and the North Lewisburg Branch on Winder Street remain closed until further notice because of the coronavirus pandemic. Curbside service is available, however.

INITIAL REPORT

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1,000 block of Scioto Street after receiving reports of a car that crashed into the library in Champaign County.

Initial reports indicated the car drove through the building of the main library.

We are working to learn if the library was open at the time of the crash, if there are any injuries and if any roads are closed as a result of the incident.
