BEAVERCREEK TWP. — A state trooper was hit by a vehicle on U.S. 35 in Greene County while directing traffic around a previous crash during the overnight hours, according to investigators.

Trooper Paul Coates was hit by a vehicle on U.S. 35 near Trebein Road in Beavercreek Twp. around 6:15 a.m. Friday while he was walking in the intersection, according to the Xenia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Coates was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries, state troopers on the scene told News Center 7′s Kayla Courvell.

“Trooper Coates was wearing his reflective safety vest at the time of the crash, and his vehicle had its emergency lights activated a short distance away,” OSHP said in a statement.
The driver who hit Coates was identified as Tyler Boatman, 24.
Troopers have not said whether any citations will be issued.
The first crash happened during the overnight hours in the same area and involved an overturned semitrailer. The crash was reported late Thursday night but additional details about the incident were not available.
The crash investigation initially blocked both directions of U.S. 35, however the eastbound lanes were allowed to reopen around 7 a.m. and the westbound lanes around 8:30 a.m.
